Stockley's Maxed Out - "Maxine"
English Setter Brood Bitch
at STOCKLEY KENNELS
Comments from some happy owners of Maxine's litters.
7-06-02 - Just to give you an update on "Stormin" which we picked up from you three
weeks now. He slept the whole way back to New York so he was a pistol to get
to sleep the first night. He has moved from crate to room within the first
week of being here without having an accident at night, and only has a
problem when he gets excited. He has seemed to have grown almost twice his
size since we have picked him up and definitely likes to play fetch already.
The kids keep him busy and he has adapted well to playing without chomping
too much. He knows his name, come and no real good and has picked up some
what on sit and down. He is a joy to work with as he seems to be a quick
learner. He will be going to the Vets this week and I will keep you informed
on his progress. Thanks for the great pup. R. Meyer, West Point, NY (Maxine/Steed litter 2002)
It's just to say you that Maxum had completed his field dog test
with the CKC , in July 14 with an average score of 97/100 (100,98,95). He also had his first
leg in FDX with the score of 90/100, it's a very good performance! We're very happy of him.
He also had "certificat very good" in the pointing class at the "Fédération Québécoise des
clubs de chiens d'arrêts" competition on July 7 . August 12, we're going to go at
Riviere-du-Loup to a Federation competition, and this time we'll registered him on a
"Versatile test". Rodrigue and Guylaine, Canada (Maxine/Trip litter 2000)
UPDATE 8-26-01 - Last August 12, at "Riviere du Loup" Federation
competition , Maxum had a third place with the score of 115/156 (certificat good) on the Versatile test.
Rodrigue and Guylaine, Canada (Maxine/Trip litter 2000)
- UPDATE - 6-5-02 - Just wanted to update you on Maxum. Last week, was the
" Fédération Quebecoise des clubs de chiens d'arrêt "
competition. Maxum had a perfect score of 132/132 (excellence certificate). He's a very good boy. Rodrigue and
Guylaine, Canada (Maxine/Tripp litter 2000)
- UPDATE - 8-29-02 - It's just to say you that Maxum had performed in all these
competitions this summer :
- second place on NSTRA....
- prize 1 pointing at federation quebecoise des clubs de chiens d'arrêt....
- prize 2 versatile at federation....
-FDX at CKC with the score of 284/300 probably it will be on the first place on the top 10....
Finally , last week he had a prize 1 UT with the score of 204/204 at the NAVHDA competition.
I Think it's the first English setter to obtain this score on the NAVHDA's story.
We'll probably go to Orange ,Missouri on October 2004 to the INVITATIONAL...
Thank you very much for sale me this very good dog! Rodrigue and
Guylaine, Canada (Maxine/Tripp litter 2000)
Just wanted to let you know that Piney is doing great. He is definitely
adjusting very well. I am very pleased with his intelligence and his nose
to this point, he really likes to use his nose. He will be taking a trip to
the vet on Monday, So things just could not be going any better with PUP.
He also has learned to like his crate very much, that is where he takes his
best naps. Getting some nice points in the
back yard- also he is very easy to train. July - Piney has such a classic setter look, his head just
gets bigger and bigger, and those jaws. Well pup is pointing all insects an stalking all the
birds in the yard. What a great looking setter.
Gray Blankenship - Richmond, VA. (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
UPDATE - Oct. 1st, 2001 - I would say Piney is about 40 lbs now, he was at 35 a month ago
at the vet. What we have accomplished as far as commands go here, kennel, some whoa, and
sometimes no, and one long whistle blast for come in, he has really done
well with that one. Started doing some work with live birds, he is learning
to like them very much, seeing good signs like pointing as soon as he gets
the scent. Will be doing more serious work in a few weeks. Pup doing very
well with the Training pistol, no reaction at all. Started him on the bell
last week as well.
Pup and I went out Sunday at the game commission land. Piney was doing good
things like checking the wind, holding a high head, responding to commands
very well, but I know it probably will not last for long.
Grouse comes in on the 29, you know where we will be.
Pups Official name Maximus Piney Covert and has the biggest feet and head,
for a pup. I will say if he points grouse with the intensity he does on a
fly, I will be very happy. Very pleased, Gray Blankenship
UPDATE - Nov. 7th, 2001
Just wanted to let you know how pup was doing. At this point pup has chased
some birds, pointed some birds, had the training pistol shot over him, had
the shot gun shot over him, and Had a bird he pointed shot for him.
Of coarse these are pen raised birds, needless to say he is bird
crazy......right where we want to be.....
Piney also found himself in the grouse coverts last week, I hunted him 2 1/2
days, not to hard, he had a blast, stayed close, was really working for a
pup, tail and head high on the last day-- that was nice, you could see his
confidence growing. I put up 7 birds but pup never really smelled them,
conditions were terrible, hot and so dry.
Really liked what I saw as far as hunting instincts, things that he just
does on his own.... so far so good, we are having a great time,
PUP also becoming quite the setter, one word "big" head, feet, frame.....
Thanks, Gray Blankenship
UPDATE - 4-18-02 - We had a great first season, with lots of bird action.
As you can guess he is still very much a pup, even though he is about 50
some odd pounds. We all are having a great time, except when Piney thinks
he is smarter than I am. That is to be expected. Needless to say he is
absolutely bird crazy and points everything. Gray Blankenship - Richmond, VA. (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
UPDATE 6-18-03 - Piney is smart as a tack, great confirmation, and extremely
loyal setter. I am so happy with him. I tell people about you guys all the time, I also tell them that's where I
will be getting all my dogs. Gray Blankenship, Richmond, Va. (Maxine/Trip 2001)
Just wanted to update you on the pup. Dagny is so beautiful! She
literally stops traffic when I walk her down the street. And her adjustment
to us has gone smoothly. She is bold and playful out in the yard but she is
quite the cuddler in the evening. Galt took to her immediately just like
everyone else does. I can tell they will be a great hunting team. She is our
summer entertainment and we are enjoying every minute of it. Thank you!
Also, I've had several people ask me if all the pups are sold out of Dagny's
litter? I've also directed them to your website to view upcoming litters.
Telma - Kansas (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
UPDATE - 8-27-01 - The pups are beautiful as usual. I always
enjoy the pictures of puppies on your web site. Just a quick update on our two. Nate spends
a few minutes every evening with Galt on the retrieving table in the back yard. I can see the
improvement from just a couple of weeks ago. Next weekend dove season opens here in
Kansas and Nate would like to have Galt retrieve doves for him. It will be interesting to see
how he responds.
Dagny (we call her Dag) is just a doll. Nate works with her every evening after Galt's lesson
and she is so quick to learn something new you just want to pinch yourself. Her points in the
backyard for flies are picture perfect and intense. Nothing distracts her. My neighbors stand
at the fence and watch her. She is truly a sight to behold. And she has that sweet, loving
personality like Galt has that makes you want to smile everytime you see her. Nate was
loving and playing around with both of them the other day and said, "Do Neil and Judy
produce the greatest pups or what?" I agreed. All that wonderful hunting instinct and all that
gentle and calm pet appeal. The best of both worlds. Nate and I are glad we found you on
the internet.
I am attempting to write a children's book about an English Setter. The tenative title is,
A Home For Garth. And even if it isn't published, it's kind of a labor of love and I'm enjoying
writing it and I think that counts for something. One more thing new at our house--pigeons.
Twelve occupy our new pigeon house. Those are for Dagny training this fall. More critters
to take care of. But I don't mind. Galt and Dagny are worth it. Good luck with all your pups.
We promote your pups and your web site whenever we can. Telma (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
UPDATE - Jan. 31, 03 - A friend of ours took pictures of Galt and Dagny at a planted
bird hunt in Missouri last Saturday. In honor of Venus and her new litter, I thought you might like to see a
couple of pictures of Galt. He is from Venus/Toby 1999. When Galt sees Nate sort out his hunting gear, he
knows a trip is imminent. He won't eat. Or play. Or leave Nate's side. As Nate says, Galt puts his game face
on and he's ready to go. And our beautiful Dagny, Maxine/Tripp 2001, is the perfect match for Galt. Both have
great noses. Both honor in the field. They are attentive and intuitive. My freezer "runneth" over with quail and
pheasant. And the many days of the year they aren't hunting, the two dogs are in the backyard being the sweet,
playful, beautiful dogs that we love. On a cold winter evening in Kansas, there's nothing like curling up with a
good book and two setters by the fire. Telma Reed (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)

Judy, I give the pup an A+ what an excellent puppy I have had
lots of dogs and am pretty discriminating. I won't bore you with all the details but she has
really exceeded my expectations. Thanks very much Patrick Glover - Maine (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
Thanks for everything. She's adjusting fine,
she looks great. Nice markings too. She has a good nose too. Very playfull.
She'll be in good hands. Looking forward to get back to hunting. Thanks, Mike Fischer - GA.
(Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
Mike sounded so thrilled with Lana. I have not heard him speak of
a dog with the tone of voice that he used when I called him. He revered his Sheena (the 1st
setter). She died of cancer after pulling an average of 7 pheasant up, during each hunt for 9
years. It now has been almost 4 years since he has owned a setter and he was a very proud
papa last night. He loves her markings. He said she is going to be gorgious. He said that
she definately has a nose. He also said that she is unusually calm and responsive and a
poised pup. He also said that she barks fine! :) Thanks for choosing Mike for her new owner.
You couldn't have found a more devoted man to become her Master. We will send pictures
along the way as well as email to let you know how she is developing! You sound as attached
to her as I have been with my breeding pups. The last one is the hardest to let leave the nest.
Have a great day. - Nanc Fischer - (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
UPDATE - 7-20-01 - I just thought I would let you know how Havelock
Lady Laina is doing.
She is such a quick study. She is heal and whoa training on her leash in our
neighborhood very well. It is about a mile. She loves to fetch the bird bag,
and she loves to swim in the lake and my garden bathtub. She even fetches
toys under the water....just about 4" deep. Tia, our house dog, is training
Laina the ropes! She goes to the door and seldom has any accidents. When she does
get going though
she enjoys a good rouse with Tia. She is extremely intelligent, and we are
VERY pleased. We have a new best friend. She is definitely spoiled. She has
grown leaps and bounds in the last few weeks, and learned how to jump onto
the couch today! :(
The cutest of all, is that she jumps on the swing outside, which
makes it go and she just sits there swinging and watches the birds on the
fence! Mike is very pleased with her natural ability to point and smell
everything in site! Last night she held 5 deer at a very steady point on her
walk! :) Thankfully the back yard is fenced in. She is very special and we
are so thankful to have found her. Well, I'll stop bragging about our girl
for now! When we get the pictures developed I took recently, I'll send them
to you! - PS She still sleeps with her Raccoon every night! :)
Take Care! Nanc Fischer - (Maxine/Trip 2001 litter)
3-08-02 - Just a note to let you know that Laina is doing great. she weighs 46.2 pounds!
The largest of all our females yet. Although we have decided to keep her indoors so far, due to all the nasty
insects here that attack neighboring animals.....snakes too, she hunts the yard and house constantly!
Can't take take the birddog out of a natural talent. which we are extremely pleased with her. very birdy!
She goes to Waynesboro, GA to work the fields for quail. it is the nataional birddog city. not far from here.
Laina send her very wet kisses. Nanc' Fischer, Evans, Ga. (Maxine/Tripp litter 2001)
12-25-00 - We love our English Setter, his name is Freddie. He's
doing very well
- stays outside most days. He sleeps in his crate at night inside our kitchen. He gets lots of
love and exercise. He's a great dog - we love him very, very much. Thank you for letting us have
him. I'll send you a photo of my first English Setter sometime, Freddie looks just like him.

The Lee Family, Va. Beach, VA.
I 've been meaning to email you on K - OZ, he is an adorable
puppy that's very well trained. We have spoiled him so that he follows us all over the
house. If he's eating and he doesn't see anyone around him, he stops eating to come find
us. He's very smart and loves to run and chase after the boys.
This is a job : - ). I'm praying I can keep up this energy needed to raise him and the boys.
(Maxine/Trip litter - 2000) Tiffany Rantin, Baltimore, MD.
Well everything is going fairly well. Jazz is settling in. We aren't
having to use the spray bottle continually anymore. That is a great trick. The trip to the vet
was uneventful. She didn't even flinch when she got her shot. She is just a sweetie. Brian
has already informed me (3X's) that when Jake dies, we will be driving right back to your
place for another puppy. She really does have a nose. Brian doesn't want to overdue the
quail wing for fear of encouraging sight pointing, but at the same time says he doesn't think
there would be any problem of that 'cause when he puts the wing away, she immediately
starts using her nose to find the spots where the wing touched the ground. Jazz has only had
one accident in the house in a week, while I was on the phone so I missed her sign language.
The girls are having a ball with her. Brianna is quite the helper. She does everything the
way I ask her ... distracting her from biting with the toothbrush, going ehh when she starts
doing something she isn't supposed to do, spraying her to keep her from jumping up.
Quite the little mother. Sorry I missed your call. Jaz does have quite a bit of determination
when it comes to getting her way, but we have been very careful to be consistent and I can
see it is already paying off. Still very pleased, Rena & Brian Berkey, Quantico, Md.
(Maxine/Trip litter - 2000)
UPDATE - She scent points! Of course there was never any doubt in
our minds. She's first class. Brian was walking her in our large yard when the wind shifted,
it started coming from the direction of our quail pen. She froze, and with style. I must say
that your really caring about the puppies is one of the things that impresses us most.
Feel free to use any of our correspondence. I enjoyed reading all the stories on
your web page before we even contacted you. - Rena
UPDATE - 9-09-00 - All I can say is WOW. We read the article,
how sad. Sounds like you've had your hands full. Just shows how much you care, one
of the things I have been impressed with all along. Jazz is doing great, a part of the family.
Her official name is going to be "Jazz 'em Up" - once I send the send the papers in.
She stays outside with Jake now, too big for the crate. You won't
believe how she has grown, she's beautiful and loved. Brian is amazed
at how sound she is, seems to already know what she is expected to do.
He spends time with her every evening, taking her for a run before working
with her a little. Has a lot of natural retrieve in her. Rena
UPDATE - 10-01-00 - She has grown a little taller and her ticking
has darkened up. She just keeps getting prettier and prettier. She looks a lot like her dad
but even more so like her Grand-dad. Brian says to me quite often, "I love my puppy".
She has such a cute personality. She talks to us all the time by rolling a sound in the back
of her throat. She has a very deep voice, she and Brian hold conversations together that
way. She's very happy and extremely enthusiastic about finding birds. She has bonded with
the whole family, the girls love to give her treats and pet her, but she has really bonded
with Brian, as it should be. One more thing to tell you about her is that right down her
backbone, her hair is a little courser and goes in a squiggly S. Never saw anything like it,
it looks really cool. She's going to have a beautiful coat. Thick enough to keep her warm,
but oily enough to keep all the cockle burrs from sticking ... maybe that's hopeful thinking. -
The Berkey's
UPDATE - 11-01-00 - Brian had Jazz out this morning, couldn't
pass up the little nip in the air. She pointed with her paw up and tail straight in the air, he was
quite a ways away and she didn't budge the whole time. Let him walk in and flush. Beautiful!
They'll make a great pair, she already loves bird hunting as much as he does. - Rena
UPDATE - 06-03-01 - It's been almost a year since we picked up Jazz.
I thought it was a good time to write you a note and send a few pictures.
She has been a greal pleasure to train and spend time with. This fall she was pointing and
holding birds well and backing our older dog naturally. She is retrieving well also. Maybe all
that play retrieveing helped as a puppy.
A friend and I took all of the dogs out to hunt together on several occasions. She hunted on her
own and did not follow the other two. We also took them to a preserve at the end of the year
and she made a great retrieve to my hand. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a little
competion from other dogs. Over the summer my plan is to work on some obedience and just
have fun together. Thank you again for a wonderful hunting dog and family friend.
- Brian and Rena Berkey
Just wanted to say thanks for such a great puppy (now named Riley), and let
you know he's doing great. He really had very little stress with the move,
and is already pottying outside about 90% of the time. He's a wonderful
little guy, puppy-like but not hyper, and very sweet. Sleeping 8 hours at
night in his crate, with some much shorter confinements in the day, and very
little crying about it. We take him in the car with us whenever we can (we
did get a crate, as that box was not working!), and he settles right down
then, too. Everyone is smitten, and it has been a wonderful start. Thanks
again! - Jennings Wrights, Raleigh, N.C. (Maxine/Trip litter)
UPDATE - 05-24-01 - Just wanted to send you a photo of Riley, who we got from you almost
a year ago. Aside from the always-slightly-orange tint he has from the belly down due to our wonderful NC red
clay, he is beautiful, and he has so much personality!
I know if we hunted, Riley would be a fabulous gun dog, as he points at and chases anything that moves in
our yard, including shadows, leaves, bugs, you name it. And he is FAST!
He will play ball literally for hours, and has gotten great at catching whatever you throw before it bounces.
But when he's inside with us, he's calm and affectionate, not hyper, and is as sweet as he can be.
Anyway, I just wanted to send you the photo and thank you for Riley. He is a wonderful dog, and a great addition
to our family. We lost our lab in Feb. and my kids frequently ask me if we are going to get a "friend" for Riley from you... And we just
may in a year or two! Thanks again. - Jennings Wright
You don't know how happy you have made our whole family. Having an English Setter
is one of the easiest and sweetest dogs we could own. When we lost Ben, it broke our hearts. We know already
this beautiful boy will be every bit the sweetheart we need. My two girls have taken to him very well. My husband
and I have tried to help him learn how to live in our home and be comfortable. We dearly love him. You sure do have a
wonderful knack for breeding a superior natured dog. Thank you once again from all of my family. (Maxine/Broker litter)
