National Shoot to Retrieve Grand National Championship Trial
held in Waverly, NE. - June 8th, 2002
Congradulations to Gary Wayland and 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker for First Runner Up in the
2002 Grand National Championship and to George Demarest and 4x Ch. Demarest Orchards Tim for their
accomplishment for placing in the top 16.
The following is a synopsis of
Stockley Kennels involvement
in the 2002 Grand National Championship
trial held in Waverly, NE. - June 5th - 8th, 2002
The trial format for Wednesday and Thursday's eliminations was beat your bracemate.
High score in the brace advanced to Friday's semi-elimination round. Each brace is 30 minutes. A total of 128
dogs were competing in the first elimination rounds on two fields each day. 64 would advance to Friday.
Bobby Clark with Tiger and Neil and Broker
Running on Wednesday on the B Field in the 1st brace was 5x Ch.
Stockley's Broker. "Broker" is owned by Gary Wayland of Front Royal, Va., a Va. Region member. "Broker" was
handled by Neil Lessard. Congradulations Gary, Broker and Neil for your advancement this round.
Chad Johnson with Marshall's Sundance Kid and Neil and Jed
Ch. Demarest Orchard's Too ran Wednesday, June 5th on A Field
in the 4th brace. "Jed" is owned by George Demarest of Hillsdale, N.J., Mid-Atlantic Region of National Shoot to
Retrieve and was also handled by Neil. Congradulations to Jed's bracemate who outscored our team.
Brave and Nolan Huffman and Neil with Tech
Also running on Wednesday on the B Field again, in the 12th brace was Stockley's Hard Drive.
"Tech" is owned by Don Evans of Herndon, Va., also a Va Region member. "Tech" was handled by Neil. Nolan Huffman
and Beeline Bullet's Bravado advanced. Congradulations Nolan and "Brave".
On Thursday, June 6th on A Field 4x Ch. Demarest
Orchard's Tim ran in the 9th brace. He is also owned by George Demarest and handling was done by Neil.
Tim advanced to Friday's semi-elimination round. Congradulations team.
Friday's semi-elimination round was to consist of 64 dogs. The format for Friday, June 6th
was to change. The top eight dogs from each field would advance to compete in Saturday mornings Top 16 dogs.
Neil and Broker and Arlette with Picabo
Friday 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker drew A field and the 8th brace. Our
bracemate was Arlette Hennessey and Tucalota Creek Picabo out of the Az. Region. (They were also our camping
neighbors). It looked like both were advancing until the unfortunate happened for Arlette and Picabo. They were
bumped to 9th place in the 16th brace, the last brace of the day. We have been there numerous of times.
Congradulations to Arlette on her fine performance as this was only her second National championship trial she had
run in. Stockley's Broker was now in the Top 16.
Neil and Tim and Nolan with Brave
On B Field in the 12th brace 4x Ch. Demarest Orchard's Tim drew
Beeline Bullet's Bravado and Nolan Huffman from the South Carolina Region. Both bracemates were in the top eight
on this field. Congradulations to all! Both advanced to the Top 16.
This was a first for Stockley Kennels. Two dogs, Broker and Tim, in the Top 16 of a National
Trial.
Saturday Morning, June 8th, the top 16 dogs out of 164 would compete for the Top 8. The
format now goes back to beat your bracemate.
Eddie with Daisey and Neil and Broker
B Field - Brace 3 - 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker is braced against Eddie
Green and Daisy. Eddie and Daisy are from the South Carolina Region. We have run this dual before in the
Championship trial in Georgia and they are awesome together. Broker advanced to beat his bracemate. Broker
would advance to the Top 8. Congradualtions Gary, Broker and Neil.
Neil and Tim and Todd with Maggie
A Field - Brace 4 - Demarest's Orchards Tim is braced against Mi. Region member, Todd
Craven and Maggie. Congradulations to Todd and Maggie for their advancement to the Top 8.
Top 8 out of 128 entered dogs ran on two fields again wanting to beat their bracemates
to advance to the Final Top 4. Still Saturday June 8th.
Neil and Broker and Jim with B.J.
After a short break 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker would run in the
1st brace against 11x Ch. Tall Oaks Freebee (B.J.), and Jim Smith. Jim Smith's setters have been doing awesome
this whole trial. Broker outscored his bracemate and Gary, Neil and Broker went on to the Final Four!
Neil and Broker and Nolan with Buddy
After a longer break the top four were then drawn and Buddy, 25x Ch. Nolan's Last Bullet, and
Broker, 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker had A Field.
and
Nolan with Brave and Mike with Fancy
Brave, 6x Ch. Beeline Bullet's Bravado and Fancy, 20x Ch. Fancy White Trash,
and Mike Clark from the Mid West Region drew B field.
Beating your bracemate this round would determine
runoff for first and second and runoff for third and fourth. Broker showed his best performance yet and had four birds
and four retrieves, thus advancing him to Winner or First Runner Up.
Nolan with Buddy and Mike with Fancy
The run off for third and fourth was between Buddy and Fancy and would be a 30 minute brace
like the trial has been all along. Buddy outscored his bracemate, Fancy. This outcome determined third and fourth
place at the 2002 Grand National Championship..
Neil with Broker and Nolan with Brave
Run off for first and second would be an hour brace. Another break was taken so that
handlers and dogs could catch their breath. Congradulations to Nolan Huffman and Brave, Winner of the 2002
Grand National Championship Trial.
Mike and Fancy, Ned and Buddy, Neil and Broker, Nolan and Brave
Congradulations to Gary Wayland and 5x Ch. Stockley's Broker
for First Runner Up in the 2002 Grand National Championship and to George Demarest and 4x Ch.
Demarest Orchard's Tim for their accomplishment for placing in the top 16. And to, of course, Stockley Kennels
and my hero, Neil Lessard.
