Comments from some happy owners of Bettys litters

02-18-05 - Hey Judy & Neil, Happy New Year! I hope everything is good by you. OK, Where should I start?? What a unbelievable dog I was blessed with. I've never seen seasoned dogs do what this dog has done this season, before the age of one. Where I hunt Quail on state lands the limit is 7 so I was taking her out first and leaving my older dog in the truck. I thought that I would give her center stage and by going in at first light, gave her a better chance to get on some birds. So my thinking is that she'll find me 2 or 3 which is respectable for a young pup and then go back to get the older more experienced dog that knows the game. Well that didn't happen my girl was finding me my limit of 7 before I could get the other dog and more than one time this happened. And I think there is some thing wrong with her nose (lol) when she goes on point (like a statue) I go in front of her 5-10 feet or so to look for the bird, looking and looking, well damn if I could find it. So I would relocate her and she would move up that 10 feet and lock up again. Well this bird is 10-15 feet in front of her and this bird wasn't running it's just that she points so far away (not that is a problem). So now I find myself making a cast far out and then come back to her. That was her pointing, let's get to her backing......Unbelievable.......She backs from 30+ yards. I held off on the beeper with her for this season, but my other dog had the point mode only....Well there were times that I had to shut it off because it didn't take long for the pup to figure out that the steady beep sound meant that my other dog had a bird, not that that wasn't good but if that beeper went off at any time, whatever she was doing (getting a drink, stopped by me) the pup would lock up, I mean sometimes from the other side of the field. I had to keep releasing her. I watch a lot of hunting shows and over the years, I watched dogs on TV pointing a bird with a bird in their mouth from a bird that just was shot, well I thought that was so cool, but never happened with any dog that I had......... Well, up to now. I was hunting both dogs and the pup pointed a Quail and I shot it and on her way back with the bird in her mouth my other dog had locked up on another Quail and when she saw her she locked up right behind her with that bird still in her mouth, what a sight. I quick got a pic (I'll send it to you).
pup on point
Well I couldn't be more pleased than I am with this dog, what a great first season. She just turned 1 year old 3 weeks ago and has a ton of birds under her belt already. I just want to thank you again for working with me to get me this great dog. Thanks again, Gary Marshall, Carlstadt, N.J. (Betty/Steed litter 2004)

Just thought I would drop you a note and let you know that Daisy is doing very well. She's been here 4 weeks now and is well adjusted and seems very happy. She has a great disposition. She's also pointing all the time at every bird in the neighborhood. We've started some basic obedience such as sit, stay, come, whoa. She's doing great and she's is very smart. Thanks, Eric Bracke, Fort Collins, CO.(Betty/Steed litter 2004)
